About Us
The Young Explorers Club aims to provide children aged 4-11 years with a safe, nurturing and enjoyable environment, in which children will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of carefully planned and stimulating activities throughout the sessions.
These include arts and crafts, pottery, cookery, educational and board games/puzzles, music, dance and drama, and children will be encouraged to complete their homework. The children will be exposed to a wide range of outdoor play equipment. There will also be a designated quiet area during all sessions for those children who wish to relax and unwind, after a hard day at school.
STAFF:
The Young Explorers club is run and led by two partners who have over 40 years of experience in running successful Montessori Schools and working with children in Early Years and key stages 1 and 2. Our committed and enthusiastic team of staff are carefully selected with a wide range of qualifications and experiences, all having undertaken DBS checks and meeting our safe recruiting policy.
EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES:
The Young Explorers Club operates within a multi-cultural setting and we support equal opportunities. We believe that no child or adult should be disadvantaged or be subject to discrimination due to race, gender, creed or ability. We welcome children with special needs and special educational needs with an individual care plan set by either a school or a social care service, in order to fully understand and support the child, to the best of our abilities.
HEALTH AND SAFETY:
After breakfast, the children will be encouraged to do some stretching and relaxing excercises and then have the opportunity to play with quiet activities to the sound of soft music in the background, to encourage a calming composure, in preparation for School.
From here, they will be escorted to the club with their belongings and risk assessments are in place to ensure children are escorted to the club safely.
CHILD PROTECTION & SAFEGUARDING:
The Young Explorers club is committed to building a ‘culture of safety’ in which the children in our care are protected from abuse and harm. The Club will respond promptly and appropriately to all incidents or concerns of abuse that may occur. The Club’s child protection procedures comply with all relevant legislation and with guidance issued by the Lewisham Safeguarding team. The Club’s designated Child Protection Officer (CPO) is Anne Abraham. The CPO coordinates child protection issues and liaises with external agencies (eg Social Care, the LSCB and Ofsted). All staff will have appropriate training on induction day, in accordance with Ofsted and Lewisham Safeguarding team's requirement and will deal with all matters in confidence. Staff will be trained to recognise any child protection issues and any concerns will be reported to the CPO.
